What Everyone Needs to Know About Gettysburg’s October 4, 2019 Community Events

The evening of October 4 in Gettysburg will be a special night to remember.  The Gettysburg Municipal League’s Conference will be downtown enjoying a fun evening of entertainment, food and GARMA’s First Friday.  It is homecoming for both Gettysburg College and Gettysburg High School. Early Apple Harvest visitors will be arriving. What a wonderful opportunity for Main Street Gettysburg to invite everyone to join our community table that will stretch down Baltimore Street to South Street.

This fundraising event, the Long, Long, Long, Long Dinner, has been the buzz of the town.  Wendy Allen with her team of volunteers have created a “first time” experience where everyone can enjoy sharing a dinner together.  For this to be successful, the community needs to share the following logistical information:

Gettysburg will be very crowded the weekend of October 3-6 with multiple street closures due to numerous simultaneous events occurring, particularly the evening of Friday, October 4th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Street Closures and Detours: At 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4 the 2 southern quads of Lincoln Square will be closed. (ACNB quad and David Wills House quad).  Baltimore Street will be closed at 2:00 p.m. from the square to South Street.  There will be a two-way east/west traffic flow over the northern half of Lincoln Square.  Cross streets (High Street and Middle Street) will remain open throughout the event.  Crossing guards and barriers will ensure safety.  For detour routes, please go to the maps on the Gettysburg Borough’s website.

Parking: The high school is having their homecoming football game right off of Baltimore Street and will be using the school parking lots on Lefever Street. Please DO NOT park at either the Gettysburg Middle School or Lincoln Elementary School parking lots. These spaces are reserved for those attending the football game.

Free parking and a free shuttle to the event will be provided at the Harrisburg Area Community College parking lot at 731 Old Harrisburg Road in Gettysburg.  The shuttle will operate between the following hours:  To the event: 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm and for returns to the lot: 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm.  Drop off and pick up is one block north of Lincoln Square.

Security/Refuse/Comfort Stations – Additional trash cans and port-a-potties will be available.  Barricades and cross guards will be at each intersection.  Emergency Medical will be on-site.  Security police will be stationed throughout the event.

For those attending the Long, Long, Long, Long Dinner Event

Food --Your ticket buys you a seat at the table, but you are responsible for your own food. You can choose to pack a meal from home, order from a local restaurant, or visit one of the food trucks on site.

ALCOHOL – We do not have an open container allowance within the event area.  We do, however, have a Special Occasion Permit with the PLCB that allows MSG to sell alcohol within a designated area of the event.  This designated area is located on Lincoln Square and beer and wine will be sold to those 21 years and over.

Finding A Seat--If you purchased a table (8 tickets or more), you will have a reserved table(s) at the event. A tent sign with “reserved” and with the purchaser’s name will be on the table. If you need help to locate your table, find an event volunteer.

If you purchased only a few tickets (less than 8), you will need to find a table that is not reserved. A tent sign with “open” will be on the table. If you need help to locate an open table, find an event volunteer.

Tickets --Please bring your tickets to the event - you can simply show the tickets on your mobile device or you can print them out and bring them along!
